
What is ECO Funding?
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a government driven initiative that obligates the larger energy companies to deliver energy efficiency measures to domestic properties in Britain. The ECO scheme, which was launched alongside the Green Deal gives grants to low-income households and people living in certain geographical areas.It will continue to run until Mar 2017 – its future after that is under review.
An EPC must be carried out to ascertain Carbon Savings before any works can be agreed.
Who could Benefit from ECO Funding?
People who own or privately rent their home.
People in low income households (a full list of qualifying benefits can be found below).
People living in certain geographical areas.
People who have old, inefficient or broken down boilers or poor levels of insulation.
Qualifying Benefits Include –
Stand Alone Benefits (one of the following)
• Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit with relevant income £16,010 or less
Or one of these combinations
Combination 1
Receive one of the following
• Income-Related Employment & Support Allowance
• Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
• Income Support
Plus one of the below –
1. are responsible for a child under the age of 16 who resides with them
2. are responsible for a child 16 or over but under the age of 20 who resides with them and is in full-time education (other than higher education) or approved training
3. receive a disabled child premium
4. receive a disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium
5. receive a pensioner premium, higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium
6. receive child tax credit which includes a disability or severe disability element
7. are in a work related activity or receive a support component (only with Income-related Employment and Support Allowance).
Combination 2
Receive
• Working Tax Credit with relevant income £16,010 or less
Plus one of the below –
1. are responsible for a child under the age of 16 who resides with them
2. are responsible for a child 16 or over but under the age of 20 who resides with them and is in full-time education (other than higher education) or approved training
3. receive a disability or severe disability element
4. are aged 60 or over
Combination 3
Receive
• Universal Credit with a monthly earned income of £1,250 or less in any one of the assessment periods in the previous 12 months
Plus one of the below –
1. are responsible for a child under the age of 16 who resides with them
2. are responsible for a qualifying young person 16 or over but under the age of 20 who resides with them and is in full-time education (other than advanced education) or approved training
3. have limited capability for work, or limited capability for work and work-related activity
4. receive Disability Living Allowance
5. receive Personal Independence Payment
